Former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff has advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to shelve his presidential ambition until 2031, stating that the North will not support Peter Obi in the 2027 election.
Sheriff, a prominent PDP chieftain, argued that Obi lacks the necessary political structure and regional backing, particularly in the North, to win the presidency.
He emphasized that the region remains strategic in determining who emerges as Nigeria’s president and dismissed Obi’s chances despite his strong showing in the 2023 election.
The comments come amid ongoing political realignments and permutations as major politicians begin positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential race.
