The Federal Government has inaugurated the new governing council of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), with former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose appointed as chairman.

The inauguration marks the beginning of a new phase for the agency as it works to expand electricity access to underserved and unserved communities across the country.

The council is expected to provide strategic direction for the implementation of rural electrification programmes and support efforts to improve access to reliable electricity in areas that remain off the national grid.

Fayose and other members of the council are expected to work with relevant stakeholders to strengthen the agency’s programmes and ensure that government interventions in the power sector deliver tangible benefits to Nigerians.

The development comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to address Nigeria’s electricity challenges and accelerate the provision of power infrastructure across rural communities.
