Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has criticised the All Progressives Congress over reports that the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, may coordinate the party’s presidential campaign structure in Rivers State and the FCT.
Fayose described the reported arrangement as an indication of confusion within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His comments followed reports that President Bola Tinubu is considering giving Wike a defined role in the campaign structure for Rivers State and the FCT.
Wike is expected to coordinate the campaign in the two territories while retaining his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party. Reports said the arrangement is intended to utilise his political network without making him an APC member.
Reacting to the development, Fayose questioned how Wike could coordinate the APC’s campaign activities while remaining a member of the PDP.
He said the arrangement raised questions about the relationship between Wike and the APC ahead of the election.
Fayose has also previously claimed that some APC governors are backing the opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress, although he did not identify them publicly.
The APC Governors’ Forum has, however, said its members would support President Tinubu’s re-election and APC candidates.
The reported role for Wike comes amid disagreements over the structure of Tinubu’s 2027 campaign and the extent of influence different political actors should have in Rivers State and the FCT.
Wike has repeatedly said he does not need to join the APC to support Tinubu’s re-election and has maintained that his focus is on delivering support for the President in Rivers State and the FCT.
