The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has criticized the decision of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to retain the APC’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for the 2027 election.

According to Adebayo, the same-faith ticket conflicts with Islamic teachings on fairness and inclusion. He argued that political leadership in a diverse country like Nigeria should reflect the nation’s religious and ethnic diversity rather than concentrating power within one faith.

He maintained that his criticism is based on his understanding of principles of justice and equal representation, not on opposition to any religion. Adebayo also urged political leaders to prioritize competence, national unity, and inclusiveness as the country prepares for the 2027 general election.

The debate over the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket has intensified following the party’s decision to keep Tinubu and Shettima together for another presidential race. Supporters say the ticket is based on competence and electoral considerations, while critics argue it raises concerns about religious balance and representation in Nigeria’s multi-faith society.
