The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of non-sensitive election materials to some states ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja at a national stakeholders’ meeting held to mark 100 days to the 2027 general elections.

Amupitan said the early distribution was part of measures to address delays in the movement of election materials during previous elections.

“Some states have started receiving some non-sensitive materials ahead of the election,” he said.

The INEC chairman also disclosed that procurement for the printing of ballot papers and result sheets was nearing completion, with the commission working towards final contract awards.

He said INEC had also awarded contracts for the production and deployment of 57,000 new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices, with production already at an advanced stage.

According to him, the commission had begun distributing new operational vehicles to its state and local government offices nationwide to improve election logistics.

Amupitan said civil works, including the construction of dedicated BVAS storage facilities and local government area offices, were ongoing alongside renovations of INEC offices across the country.

He added that the commission had awarded a contract for solar power installations across its offices, while upgrades to critical information and communication technology infrastructure had also been implemented.

The INEC chairman said the commission’s procurement department was monitoring suppliers, contractors and delivery schedules to ensure that materials and equipment were provided within the required timelines.

The early preparations come as INEC intensifies activities ahead of the 2027 elections, with the commission seeking to minimise logistical challenges that have affected the delivery of election materials in previous polls.
