The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has said the All Progressives Congress, APC, cannot distance itself from the record of its past administrations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ADC made the statement in response to comments by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who had criticised opposition parties and defended the record of the APC-led Federal Government.

The opposition party argued that the ruling party should be judged by its performance in office and the impact of its policies on Nigerians.

The ADC said the APC could not claim credit for achievements while distancing itself from policies or decisions that had generated public criticism.

The party also urged Nigerians to assess political parties and candidates based on their records, policies and ability to address the country’s economic and security challenges.

The ADC said the 2027 election would provide voters with an opportunity to decide whether the current administration had met their expectations.

It called for issue-based political campaigns and urged political leaders to focus on the concerns of Nigerians rather than trading accusations.

The statement came amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition parties increasingly challenging the APC-led administration over its economic policies and governance record.
