A United States-based policy advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu could face criminal charges in the US after leaving office over allegations relating to his past.

The firm made the claim while commenting on the ongoing controversy surrounding the release of US government records linked to allegations of drug trafficking involving the Nigerian President.

According to the firm, the records could provide further information about investigations into Tinubu and actions taken by US authorities in connection with the allegations.

The group has been pushing for the release of documents from US agencies, including records held by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

It alleged that Tinubu could lose any protection associated with his position as President once he leaves office, potentially exposing him to legal action.

The firm also maintained that its campaign was aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability over the allegations.

However, the Nigerian Presidency has consistently rejected claims of wrongdoing by Tinubu, maintaining that the matter relating to the forfeiture of funds in the United States was resolved decades ago and did not result in a criminal conviction against him.

The controversy has intensified amid legal proceedings in the US over requests for the release of records relating to Tinubu.

The issue has also become a subject of political debate in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition figures demanding greater transparency over the President’s past.

The allegations remain disputed, and the latest claims by the US firm do not amount to a criminal charge or conviction against Tinubu.
