Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar, has called on the National Assembly to investigate alleged irregularities in the 2026 Appropriation Act.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku alleged that more than ₦210 billion was inserted into the budget through duplicated and overlapping allocations, describing the development as a serious concern for public finance management.
He urged lawmakers to carry out a forensic review of the budget, identify those responsible for any irregularities, and ensure that any improperly allocated funds are recovered.
Atiku also called on the Auditor-General of the Federation, anti-corruption agencies and civil society organisations to independently scrutinise the budget and make their findings public.
According to the former vice president, the alleged budget irregularities have raised concerns about transparency and accountability in the management of public funds. He said Nigerians deserve clear explanations on how the allocations were included in the budget.
The Federal Government has yet to officially respond to the allegations.
