Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has promised to reduce the cost of living and improve the purchasing power of Nigerians if elected president in 2027.
Atiku made the pledge while criticising the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which he said had increased the cost of living for many Nigerians.
The former vice president said rising prices of food, transportation, rent, healthcare, school fees and electricity had placed significant pressure on households across the country.
According to him, his administration would pursue policies aimed at making essential goods and services more affordable, creating jobs and expanding economic opportunities, particularly for young people.
Atiku also pledged to support domestic production and implement economic measures designed to lower energy costs and restore purchasing power.
He argued that economic reforms should focus on improving the welfare of citizens and ensuring that ordinary Nigerians can meet their daily needs.
The former vice president’s comments come as political parties and potential candidates intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.
