Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has described President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies as reckless, saying Nigerians should reject him in the 2027 general election.

Amaechi made the remarks on Thursday at a town hall meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City, Edo State.

He criticised the removal of the petrol subsidy, arguing that the decision had worsened the hardship faced by Nigerians.

“I read on social media that it is in 2027 that we will know how many madmen we have in Nigeria. It is only a madman that can vote for Tinubu,” he said.

“If you are not mad, then Tinubu should not win here.”

The former Minister of Transportation also accused supporters of Tinubu of backing the president out of self-interest.

Amaechi rejected the description of the subsidy removal as a courageous decision, insisting that it was reckless.

“There is a difference between courage and recklessness. Tinubu wasn’t courageous; he was reckless,” he said.

He lamented the rising cost of living, saying many Nigerians were struggling to afford basic necessities.

“People are not able to feed. Things are difficult,” Amaechi said.

He also faulted the government’s handling of Nigeria’s energy resources, arguing that the country had failed to translate its crude oil and natural gas wealth into improved living standards and economic growth.

Amaechi said ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar would introduce production subsidies if elected to support local industries and ease economic pressure on Nigerians.
