No fewer than 10 persons have been rescued alive, following the collapse of a storey building at Satellite Town in Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Old Ojo Road, near Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, a distress call was received at about 11:37 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of emergency responders from the Ijegun-Egba Fire Station, who arrived at the scene at 11:49 a.m.
The collapsed structure, a residential storey building occupied by several residents at the time of the incident, trapped a number of occupants beneath the rubble.
The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed that 10 persons had so far been rescued with varying degrees of injuries and handed over to medical personnel for treatment.
She added that search and rescue operations were still ongoing to locate and extricate any other victims who might remain trapped under the debris.
Several emergency and security agencies are participating in the rescue operation, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
Authorities said further updates would be provided as rescue efforts continue.
