Oyo State Police Command has revealed that two people who were kidnapped recently in Igbope are still in captivity.

It was reported on Sunday that the victims were released by their kidnappers, identified as Fulani herdsmen, after an ultimatum issued by Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho.

However, the command debunked the reports in a statement released on Sunday by public relations officer Olayinka Ayanlade.

It was gathered that two people identified as Mrs Kuburat Omowumi and her son were kidnapped a few days ago in the area.

Rumour surfaced online on Sunday that the victims have been released after Igboho’s intervention.

But Ayanlade, in his reaction, described the purported release as false.

He described the claims in the video released online on Sunday as false and misleading.

Ayanlade who said efforts are ongoing to ensure the release of the victims, advised members of the public to verify information before they believe it.

He added that the command is making efforts to secure the release of the victims.

“The Oyo State Police Command has taken notice of a video and related online contents alleging that the victims abducted at Igbope on 16th June, 2026, namely Mrs Kuburat Omowumi and her son, have been rescued.

“The Command wishes to state unequivocally that the claim contained in the circulated video is false, unfounded, and misleading,” the statement said.
