Former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress, ADC, vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has warned President Bola Tinubu against attempting to manipulate the 2027 presidential election.
Amaechi said he did not believe Tinubu would rig the election, arguing that Nigerians were already facing significant economic hardship.
The former Rivers State governor made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“Tinubu will not rig this election because there might not be a Nigeria if he rigs this election. Why? Because people are tired; they are hungry,” Amaechi said.
He urged the President to address the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, particularly concerns over the rising cost of living.
Amaechi also questioned how the funds saved from the removal of the petrol subsidy were being utilised, saying Nigerians expected to feel the impact of the savings.
“Where are the funds from the removal of subsidy? Where is the money? We want to feel it,” he said.
Despite his criticism of the administration, Amaechi said his position was not motivated by personal hostility towards Tinubu.
“Nobody hates Tinubu. I love Tinubu; he knows,” he said.
Amaechi also criticised the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, over comments concerning his political activities.
He said he would continue to focus on issues affecting Nigerians rather than engage in personal exchanges with government officials.
Amaechi is contesting the 2027 presidential election as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on the ADC platform.
