Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to allow Nigerians to freely express concerns about government policies.

Atiku made the call in a statement on Wednesday, arguing that citizens should be able to criticise policies they believe are negatively affecting them.

He said criticism of government policies should not be treated as an attack on the government or the country.

“Nigerians must be free to say that your policies are hurting them,” Atiku said.

The former vice president said the government should listen to citizens and respond to concerns about the impact of its policies on their daily lives.

He also criticised what he described as attempts to dismiss or silence opposing views, saying democratic governance requires room for disagreement.

Atiku has repeatedly criticised the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, particularly their impact on living costs and household finances.

The former vice president is a member of the African Democratic Congress and is among politicians preparing for the 2027 general elections.

The Tinubu administration has maintained that its economic reforms are necessary to address structural challenges and improve the country’s economic outlook.
