The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has explained why it has withheld some records relating to historical investigations involving President Bola Tinubu.
The agency said releasing the information could expose confidential sources, investigative techniques and other sensitive law-enforcement details.
The position was contained in a recent filing by the US government before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed by American transparency activist Aaron Greenspan.
The case concerns requests for records relating to investigations involving Tinubu and other individuals. The DEA has defended its use of FOIA exemptions to withhold portions of the investigative documents.
The Presidency has previously stressed that the matter is a civil records-disclosure dispute and not a criminal trial against Tinubu.
