Todd Boehly has officially left Chelsea after selling his stake in the Premier League club to majority owners Clearlake Capital.

Boehly, who had served as Chelsea chairman since the club’s takeover in 2022, sold his shares alongside fellow co-owner Mark Walter, giving Clearlake full control of the club.

The deal marks the end of the ownership structure that saw Boehly, Walter, Swiss businessman Hansjörg Wyss and Clearlake jointly control Chelsea.

Boehly and Walter each previously held a 12.8 per cent stake in the club, while Clearlake was the majority shareholder.

Chelsea confirmed that the ownership change will not affect the club’s day-to-day operations, leadership or strategic direction.

Boehly expressed gratitude for his time at Chelsea and said he remained confident in the club’s future under Clearlake’s control.

Clearlake co-founders Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano also praised Boehly’s contribution to the club and reaffirmed their commitment to its long-term development.

Wyss will remain a stakeholder in the ownership group following the transaction.

The change brings an end to Boehly’s four-year association with Chelsea as an owner and chairman.
