Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 10 kidnapped victims following a fierce gun battle with suspected terrorists in Sokoto State.
The operation was carried out after security forces launched an offensive against the armed group in one of the state’s troubled communities.
Military authorities said the suspects fled into the surrounding bush after coming under heavy fire from the troops, abandoning the victims during the exchange.
The rescued victims were evacuated to safety and are receiving necessary care, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and recover weapons or other items left behind.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against criminal elements and restoring security in affected communities across the North-West.
