The family of late nurse Mary Habila has rejected calls for an autopsy, insisting that they do not want further medical examination of her body.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Habila’s father said they had accepted the situation and believed that death could occur unexpectedly.

“We don’t want an autopsy. Death can occur at any time, and we have accepted what has happened,” he said.

The family’s position comes amid growing public interest in the circumstances surrounding the nurse’s death at a residence linked to the Minister of Works, David Umahi.

Habila, a native of Nok in Southern Kaduna, died on June 27, 2026, and the incident has continued to attract reactions from politicians, civil society groups and members of the public.

Some stakeholders had called for an independent autopsy as part of efforts to establish the cause of death and ensure transparency in the investigation.

However, the family said they preferred to proceed with burial arrangements rather than subject the body to further examination.

Authorities have not yet released any official findings regarding the cause of Habila’s death, and investigations are still ongoing.

The development comes as public debate continues over the handling of the case and calls for a thorough and transparent inquiry.
