Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has withdrawn his suit challenging the participation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress.
Amaechi had approached the court seeking to stop Atiku from contesting the party’s primary on the grounds that his participation allegedly violated the party’s constitution and nomination guidelines.
At the resumed hearing of the matter, counsel to Amaechi informed the court that his client had decided to discontinue the case.
Following the application, the court struck out the suit.
The withdrawal of the case removes a major legal challenge surrounding Atiku’s bid to secure the ADC presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
Neither Amaechi nor Atiku immediately gave reasons for the decision to discontinue the suit.
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments and negotiations among opposition figures seeking to build alliances ahead of the next presidential election.
Atiku and Amaechi are among prominent politicians who have recently been linked with discussions on possible opposition collaboration ahead of the 2027 polls.
